We have visited Mount Robson Provincial Park many times, but rarely did we have such a good look at the highest mountain peak in the Canadian Rocky Mountains (3,954m). A turn-out is conveniently located along the Yellowhead Highway to give visitors like us the opportunity to stop and get a good view of the south face of the “striped mountain”, as the Secwepemc people used to call it. During the summer a popular destination for hikers and backcountry enthusiasts, the winter months belong to the climbers. The north face of Mount Robson is heavily glaciated and 800m of ice extends from the summit to the Berg Glacier. Although the mountain is under 4,000m, there is no easy way to the summit and bad weather commonly rebuffs most summit attempts; only about 10% of attempts are successful.
